Moved In

We spent 2 weeks looking at houses. I can't begin to describe how much fun it was NOT dragging Emma and Matthew in and out of the truck, in and out of houses, shoes on, shoes off, don't touch anything, don't jump on the furniture, no that's not your toy we can't bring it with us, we'll see if we can paint your room like that......get the picture? In the end, we decided to go on base and wait a while before making a commitment as big as buying a house. Especially if we might have to try to sell it in 3 years.

Base housing wasn't exactly what we expected. To make a long story short, we are in a 3 bedroom with a finished basement. It's similiar to what we had at Eielson, expect there is one more bedroom. Thomas and Matthew are sharing a room and so far it's not so bad. We are happy to have the basement as a play/toy area, and there is a small "storage" room that is going to be the scrapbooking/fly tying room. It's not a legitimate bedroom, because there is no window. Decent sized kitchen and laundry room. The one thing that we really don't like is the back yard. When Emma saw it she was really upset and cried that they wouldn't have room to run. She was right. Who designs these places? If you are building a 3 bedroom house you would expect there would be kids living there and playing in the backyard. The backyard could be more than twice the size if they had put the fence all the way to the end of the yard. There is about another 30 ft from the back of the fence to the end of the yard. AND, the fence height isn't the same all the way across. They have an escape route, because the person who designed these backyards obviously didn't have kids. Hey, I lived in a camper for 2 months with a 3 and 4 year old with very little complaining....I can complain about the backyard!

See the escape route behind the grill? You know it didn't take Emma long to figure that out! They haven't tried again since the last time when they got a spanking and weren't allowed outside for 3 days. Now they have to recite the "backyard rules" every time they want to go outside. "Stay in the yard, don't climb on the rocks, keep sand in the sandbox."
